LANCASHIRE COMPETITION
A grand total of 662 photographs were entered into the Lancashire-wide photography competition, making it a huge success. Contestants submitted their entries on social media using the hashtag #KnifeAngelLancashire.
Of these, 20 shortlisted entries were printed and displayed on easels in an exhibition held at Blackburn Youth Zone on Saturday 27th November 2021 which was opened by Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, Andrew Snowden.
Our judging panel, which included sculptor Alfie Bradley, provided comments which were printed on the photographs for the exhibition.
The winner of the over 18 category was Aneesa Sidat, a mum-of-two and part-time photographer from Blackburn, and the winner of the under 18’s category was Kelcey Firth, 17, from Blackburn.
Kelcey, from Mill Hill, said she was shocked to be selected as one of the winners.
She said: “It’s phenomenal to see my work exhibited. I have been to see the Knife Angel many times. It’s really emotive.
It’s inspiring to see how many people have been affected by the statue. I’m really proud to be named as one of the winners. I have been looking and all the images are good.”

Aneesa, from Roe Lee, said:
“The competition has brought people together. There have been so many Amazing photos submitted. It’s interesting to see how the sculpture has been interpreted so differently in each picture. “I’m pleased and shocked. I didn’t expect to win at all.”

The certificates were presented by Bethany Stephens, from Lancashire Youth Commission on Crime Reduction and Prevention, and Canon Dr Rowena Pailing on behalf of Blackburn Cathedral.
